[Area Insight] Breathe Of New Life In Jinjang

Known for its infamous gang-fights and triad head gatherings in the past, Jinjang has moved far into a much brighter future with new developments sprouting out in the area.

Also nicknamed as J-Town in the Kepong constituency of Kuala Lumpur, the area is split into Jinjang Utara (North) and Jinjang Selatan (South). It is said that there are as many as 9,999 lots on both sides when the new village was formed by the British during the mid-1950s to segregate the people from insurgents of the Malayan Communist Party, during the Malayan Emergency. As such, the people were placed in “New Villages” and by doing so cutting the supply of information and supplies that further empowered the communist activities.

Populated by mostly the Chinese, the area is bustling with many hawker stalls and no-frills eateries which were previously retained from old wooden houses. Do not be fooled by their appearance though, these food stalls are patronized by foodies from far places.

Check out Hainanese Street Western Food which has served breakfast for its residents since 1985 located at Jalan Tebing Selatan or hop over to Ah Kiat’s Signature Hokkien Mee located at Jalan Jinjang Aman 1. If you prefer something lighter, Seng Kee Pao which has 40 years of experience in making Fuzhou paos with their Dai Bao being their best seller will surely tantalize your taste buds leaving you wanting more!

Thanks to improvements made to the infrastructure and transportation system, the area is heavy with traffic throughout the day. However, one of the challenges in the area is definitely to improve on the traffic inflow and outflow.

Accessible via Jalan Kepong, which is connected to the Selayang-Kepong highway, DUKE highway, MRR2 highway, Jalan Kuching and Damansara-Puchong Highway, you can reach the city centre of Kuala Lumpur in 15 minutes time. Petaling Jaya is reachable via the Damansara-Puchong Highway which is only a mere 20 minutes away drive while smaller roads from the north and south link this area to other towns such as Selayang and Segambut.

Upcoming MRT station

For those relying on public transports, you can hop onto any buses along the plenty of bus-stops along Jalan Kepong, served by public buses and taxis. There are also two KTM stations, one towards the west – Kepong Sentral Station and Kepong commuter train station – and one station towards the south-east, which is Segambut commuter train station.

There is also the Jinjang MRT station located here, which is slated for completion and start operation in 2021. Located at the junction between Jalan Kepong and Segambut Bypass, Jinjang MRT station is one of the elevated stations on Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) to serve the suburb of Jinjang and further enhance the connectivity of the area. Upon completion, Persiaran KLCC MRT Station is just 10 stations away from Jinjang MRT Station.

As for daily conveniences, Brem Mall, AEON Metro Prima Shopping Centre and AEON BiG Kepong are some of the attractions nearby. The area is also served by banks, laundromats, clinics, retail shops while the Klinik Kesihatan Jinjang government clinic is also located here. As for schools, some of them include the SMK Jinjang and SJK (C) Jinjang Selatan, SJK (C) Kepong 2 and SJK (C) Kepong.

The Jinjang Fire and Rescue Station and a police station is also located in proximity to serve the residents in the area. Those with young children, elderly and nature lovers will be delighted as Jinjang is also just throw away from the beautiful and well known Kepong Metropolitan Lake that used to be a large disused mining pond. Now, it has become of the hotspots for park and kite lovers to congregate every evening to enjoy the breezy cool air.

As Jinjang is considered a matured area, you can find a range of property types available here.
